2018 Is Shaping Up To Be A Great Year

You know that feeling where there are so many things going on in the world, and yet most things in your life are going so right? February has been that month for me and I think that’s largely in part due to the amazing accomplishments that occurred throughout Black History Month. From Colin Kaepernick fulfilling his 2016 pledge, to the unveiling of the President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s portraits, to the amazing music, movies and books that have been released. February has been a dope month for black excellence and I’m wholeheartedly certain it won’t end there. In this post, I’m going to highlight a few items in entertainment that I’m most excited about in 2018.

Franchesca Ramsey - “Well That Escalated Quickly”

Known amongst most as the host of MTV’s Decoded and creator of viral video “Sh*t White Girls Says to Black Girls”,  Franchesca Ramsey has continued to soar. Last year when it was announced that she had written a pilot for Comedy Central we raved and waited with bated breath to see what else she would produce. We didn’t have to wait too long as Franchesca finally revealed her intentions to release her book entitled, Well That Escalated Quickly”. WTEQ will be released on May 22nd and is comprised of personal essays about various topics.

Grace Byers - “I Am Enough”

Representation across the african diaspora has been a hot topic as of late. That is why Grace Byer’s new book “I Am Enough” is heavily anticipated. With the release date of March 6th, 2018, this children’s book will be a great addition to young black boys and girls who are consistently overlooked.

Amanda Seales - “Small Doses”

Podcasts are great mediums of entertainment to partake in while on the go! One podcast that I’ve been interested in is Amanda Seales’ “Small Doses”, which launched in January. The multi-talented actress has taken her IG story realness to the next level with this much-needed podcast. Her insights on raw and controversial subjects may not be for everyone, but she’s worth giving a listen.

2 Dope Queens

Speaking of podcasts, as an avid listener of the Two Dope Queens podcast, I was thrilled when I learned HBO offered them 4 specials due to air in February. Their comedy podcast is unlike anything I’ve ever heard of and speaks to people from different walks of life. If you like comedy, tales of black womanhood, and hilariously obnoxious remarks, check out the podcast and the show, which has been airing every Friday since Feb 2 on HBO.

Black Panther

This past weekend was the long-awaited release of Black Panther. Since the movie was announced two years ago, I’ve been excited and ready for my soul to be cleansed. I won’t lie and say I was nervous that people were over-hyping it, but once I saw the film, I was blown away by how dramatic, honest, funny, and emotional it was. If you have not seen this film, I strongly encourage you to see it.
